Precision medicine is the direction of modern medicine, which provides optimized treatment for patients according to the different characteristics of each patient.Theranostics is a major part of precision medicine which combines specific targeted therapy based on specific targeted diagnostic tests. A theranostic probe can be utilized in diagnostics and therapeutics at the same time. The theranostic probe also can be used in the stratification of patients according to the molecular characteristics, and early response monitoring to the specific treatment. We develop novel theranostic probes that can be game changers in the management of patients with cancer, cardiovascular diseases, or metabolic diseases.

Radiation induced Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an effective anti-cancer strategy with a higher selectivity and fewer adverse effects than conventional therapies; however, shallow tissue penetration depth of light has hampered the widespread clinical utility of PDT. We developed a radiolabeled DTPA chelated Eu3+ (Eu-DTPA) / photosensitizer (PS) loaded liposome nanoplatform (Eu/PS-lipo) that utilizes ionizing radiation from radioisotopes for effective in vivo imaging and radioluminescence-induced PDT. We are further optimizing theranostic drug for radiation induced PDT.
