The paper ¡°Collagenase-Functionalized Liposomes Overcome Stromal Barriers in Pancreatic Cancer¡± by Jee-Eun Hwang, Miyeon Jeon, Jiwoo Park, Hong-Sik Kim, Subin Lee, and Haena Park has been published in ACS Nano (IF: 16.1).
In this study, the researchers developed a collagenase-functionalized liposomal nanocarrier designed to overcome the dense stromal barrier that limits drug delivery in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). By degrading the collagen-rich extracellular matrix, the system enhanced nanoparticle penetration and drug distribution within tumor tissues, resulting in improved anticancer efficacy compared with conventional delivery systems.
This work highlights the potential of enzyme-based nanomedicine strategies to overcome physical barriers in the tumor microenvironment and suggests a promising drug delivery approach for the treatment of refractory tumors such as PDAC.
